Tripping, fires or failures to reset
Electrical panel circuit breakers are designed to trip and stop the flow of current to specific circuits, high-powered devices, and appliances. Reasons to repair or replace circuit breakers include constant tripping, electrical fires in the panel and/or breakers failing to remain reset. Additional reasons circuit breakers malfunction includes:
- The building is an older model with an electrical system that hasn’t been upgraded.
- You have recently increased the number of appliances or high-powered devices within the building.
- Signs of excessive wear are visible on the existing circuit breaker box.
Three reasons circuit breakers require repair, replacement or upgrade
Commercial building circuit breakers are also known to trip when there is a severe jolt or strong vibration. Magnetic circuit breakers which incorporate a hinged metal trigger closes in response to movement of the internal magnetic coil. Tripped breakers interrupt the workflow.
Another reason to repair or replace circuit breakers is when wires wear down. Worn down wires can cause a serious fire hazard. Other symptoms of potential fire hazard include acrid smell, and/or discoloration or charring marks around the circuit breaker. These normally signify that an electrical fire has likely taken place within your panel.
The third reason for repairing or replacing faulty service panels is when too much electricity is demanded on a circuit. This causes the breaker to trip. Failure to reset or restore power is another reason to repair upgrade the circuit breaker.
Circuit breaker failures can be costly and critical with unplanned shutdowns and emergency outage costs. Untimely, failures can leave a business in the dark after hours or during weekends with little to no options. Not to mention, long lead times for new products and obsoleted equipment with no direct replacements.
