• GFCI device installation – to minimize the incidence of electrocution or any other electrical incident that involves the mix of water and bathroom electrical wiring through sockets and outlets.
• Exhaust fan installation – after enjoying a relaxing time in the tub or shower, your body dissipates heat, so leaving a bathroom unventilated will cause moisture and humidity to accumulate. An exhaust fan will circulate air inside the bathroom space and no steam or moisture will build up inside, avoiding danger to the bathroom electrical wiring. Exhaust fans will also make your indoor air more breathable and improve your overall comfort level.
• Moisture splash proof switches – to avoid the risk for any short circuits and electrocution. It is recommended that you install splash proof switches. This will prevent water from entering the switch and coming into contact with the wiring system when touching them with wet hands or from splashing water.

Bathroom remodeling lighting

• Recessed lights – it is impossible to touch or graze as you’re getting out of the water. Recessed lights occupy little space and require little to no maintenance.
• Track lights – comes in various styles to choose from. Normally two to four lights will fit into a small space.
• Pendant lights – functional and stylish. Very simple to install but a bit pricy.
• Wall spotlight – can be mount in the bathroom mirror. The wall spotlight must be on the side of the mirror for added brightness in the room.
• Dimmer switch – an adjustable switch that can be used to avoid brightness by traditional room lighting when going to use the bathroom at night.

Another option is to place lighting under the cabinets. These allow you to still have some light when using the bathroom without having to turn everything on.

Talk to your kids

Knowledge is the best tool to prevent electrocution in the bathroom. That said, have a sit-down talk with your kids about how water and electricity can harm them. Depending on their age, you may also want to think about banning them from baths and showers when you aren’t home.
